Flemington residents are returning to beautiful new homes delivered in a first of its kind project by the Victorian Government in partnership with Building Communities.
Tetris Director Brodie Commens joined Minister for Housing Harriet Shing, Member for Essendon Danny Pearson and Community Housing (Vic) Limited’s Community Development Manager, Kate Daddo, to meet with returning resident Rose Aba at Victoria Street. Rose said she was thrilled with her new home and her views of beautiful new gardens.
After two and a half years of planning, design and construction, Rose and her family are among the first to move into the 359 new apartments, surrounded by landscaped gardens, seating and play areas.
The project is delivering 240 social and 119 affordable apartments, including specialist disability homes, replacing 198 outdated walk-up flats.
In an Australian first, the redevelopment is being delivered under the Ground Lease Model where Homes Victoria has leased the land to Building Communities to construct, operate and maintain the site for 40 years before returning the land and homes to public ownership.
Comments attributable to Brodie Commens, Director, Tetris:
“This is what it’s all about. It’s so heartwarming to see families moving in and loving their new, modern homes. We’ve had great feedback about the new balconies and open space, in particular.
“Huge congratulations to Icon, Six Degrees, and our partner Homes Victoria. Our on-site tenancy manager, Community Housing (Vic) Ltd, is now busy welcoming new residents and preparing a range of terrific community events and activities.”
