Happy days as residents move into Brighton

Delighted new residents have started moving in to beautiful new homes delivered in an Australian first project by the Victorian Government in partnership with Building Communities.

Tetris Principal Ryan Slocombe joined Minister for Housing Harriet Shing, Member for Southern Metropolitan Region Ryan Batchelor, Community Housing (Vic) Limited’s Kate Daddo and Grant McNeil, and Icon’s Dan Crawley and Alistair Munroe, to meet Tanya, who recently moved in. Tanya said she was thrilled with her new home, especially her balcony and lovely views of the new gardens.

Tanya is among the first to move into the 291 new apartments, surrounded by landscaped gardens, play areas, a large community pavilion and communal vegetable gardens.

'The transition to this new home has been phenomenal. From the beginning, it has been a seamless process, and everyone has been incredibly supportive,” Tanya said.

“The apartment is beautiful with lots of light, cupboard space and air conditioning which is wonderful especially during hot days. It already feels like a home, and I am looking forward to making it my little haven.”

A professional artist, Tanya is keen to get involved in the community and hopes to organise art classes for residents in the new community pavilion.

The project is delivering 151 social and 140 market rental apartments, including specialist disability homes, replacing 127 outdated walk-up flats.

In a first of its kind project, the redevelopment is being delivered under the Ground Lease Model where Homes Victoria has leased the land to Building Communities to construct, operate and maintain the site for 40 years before returning the land and homes to public ownership.

Comments attributable to Ryan Slocombe, Principal, Tetris:

“It was great to meet Tanya and hear how happy and safe she feels in her beautiful new home. It’s why we really love delivering social housing.

“Congratulations on a fantastic job to Icon, SJB Architects and our partners Homes Victoria and Housing Australia. Our on-site tenancy manager, Community Housing (Vic) Ltd, is now busy welcoming new residents and planning some great community activities and events.”
