Andrew’s role will be to help attract long term institutional capital into the Australian Social and Affordable Housing sector.
Tetris is a specialist in the development of Australian Social Infrastructure, with a focus on Social and Affordable Housing (SAH), having delivered or is delivering approximately 3,000 new SAH dwellings to date. With a national pipeline estimated at over 50,000 dwellings requiring approximately $25 billion of private capital to deliver, Tetris is seeking to match its capability as the largest borrower from Housing Australia with the long-term investment objectives of institutional investors.
Stephen McDonough, one of two Principals at Tetris alongside Ryan Slocombe, said ‘Australia has a large and rapidly growing demand and supply imbalance of Social and Affordable Housing. Given our experience, we are keen to be a major contributor to the delivery of new stock into the sector. We think increasing supply is a better solution than re-purposing existing housing stock which has no net impact on the problem, and arguably exacerbates it. Tetris wants to be able to utilise our deep capabilities in the sector for a societal benefit, part of which is to help facilitate the provision of long-term investment capital and scale to the sector. Given the immediate pipeline in front of us, we are targeting the first half of 2024 to secure initial commitments. We are thrilled to have someone of Andrew’s experience join to help us do that’.
Andrew has over 30 years’ experience in the Australian real asset and funds management sectors. Prior to joining Tetris he was Director Funds Management, Investment Committee and Board member at Madigan Capital for 6 years, before then a Client Relationship Manager at Brookfield for 5 years, 4 years at UBS Investment Bank advising clients on private real estate strategies, and 9 years as a Senior Associate at Pinnacle Property Group, a leading specialist real estate asset consultant to Australian institutional investors at the time.
Andrew commented ‘I’m looking forward to applying my skills and experience built up over a long period of time specifically to the impact sector, and am excited to have the opportunity to do so with the team at Tetris. It’s an impressive group of people focused on such an important sector where every dollar invested will produce a meaningful outcome’.
